For more than 50 years, Eric Clapton has been regarded as one of the greatest and most influential guitarists of all time. Now 71, he has been playing since he was a teenager in London, England. Emerging as part of the blues-rock scene in 1960's London, Clapton soon found fame with The Yardbirds, the 1965 top 10 hit 'For Your Love' selling over a million copies and putting him firmly on the 60's rock and roll map. Following on from his success in The Yardbirds, Clapton went on to join one of the first supergroups, Cream. Again the hits followed, 'Sunshine of Your Love' in 1968 and the superb 'White Room' later the same year. Clapton's magnificent guitar playing on these tracks saw him become an international star, comparisons with Jimi Hendrix and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones cemented his status as a guitar legend. By 1971, still aged just 25, Eric Clapton formed his own band, Derek and the Dominos. Although together for less than 2 years, Derek and the Dominos produced one album and the classic single 'Layla', the opening guitar riff creating one of the most recognisable introductions ever. As the 1970's progressed, Clapton went on to record albums and toured internationally until the end of the decade. The 80's saw continued fame, 5 solo albums and performances at Live Aid in 1985 and other charity concerts throughout the decade kept Clapton as one of the most popular artists in the world. The start of the next decade saw the hits continue, 1992's 'Tears in Heaven' featured in the film 'Rush'. Selling more than 2,800,000 copies, it remains his best-selling record in America. Having played with an incredible array of artists, from George Harrison to Bill Murray, and with 18 Grammy Awards to his name, Eric Clapton continues to be a global guitar legend into his 6th decade as a performer.
